Free software that you might like on your computer - Sem. II 2010/2011

Good day everyone,

Below is a list of free software that you can download for your computer. It might come in handy later on for general purposes:

1. Adobe Acrobat Reader

- Allows you to view .pdf files which are abundant on this blog.

2. Digsby

- Multi-Instant Messaging Client which allows you to connect to most popular instant messaging services all through this software without having to install multiple messaging clients.

3. Youtube Downloader

- Download your favorite YouTube clips for later viewing or repeated replays on your computer.

4. GOM player + K-Lite Mega Pack Codecs

- GOM player allows you to play almost any video format by searching for codecs for files that it can't play. K-Lite Mega Pack Codecs helps most media players already installed on your computer to play known video formats.

Enjoy!

Mr. Khairul

Good day everyone,

This is the reason why you need to focus on developing your reading skills particularly in understanding text.

Take a look at the two sample final exam papers and try to do it on your own.

The papers should be completed within 2 hours each.

Do this when you have free time. Time yourself in order to test your reading and understanding skills.

Don't cheat yourself by looking at the answers before doing the tests!

Final Exam 1 - The Need For Sleep
Final Exam 1 - Answer Key

Final Exam 2 - How To Eat Smarter
Final Exam 2 - Answer Key

I'll provide more samples of the final exam later on during the semester.

Regards,

Mr. Khairul.

Acad. Com. 1 - Samples of Project Paper - Sets 6, 38, 47

Good day everyone,

Below are samples of the project paper (final draft of the essay) and my comments on it:

Sample 1

- Overall a balanced paper in terms of format, content and citation. Content could be improved.

Sample 2

- Content and citation are good. Format needs to be improved in terms of paragraphing and the inclusion of a cover page.

Sample 3

- Content is good. Missing page numbers and works cited page. Paragraphing could be improved.

My recommendation is to follow Sample 1 when writing your project paper later on.

The topics presented in the sample papers here cannot be used for your project paper topic.

Regards,

Mr. Khairul

SMS/Texting Etiquette - All subjetcs - All sets - Sem. II 2011/2012

Good day everyone,

Below is the proper way to send an sms/text message to your lecturer:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Greeting), <-- (Good day/Good Evening/Salam/Etc)

Mr. Khairul, <--- (Change the Mr./Ms. according to your respective lecturer's gender & replace the name there accordingly)

(Your Introduction) <-- I'm __________ (your name) from _____ (which set) for ______(which subject the lecturer is teaching you).

(Your Message) <-- (Preferably typed in proper language and not SMS language of short forms)

(Concluding Remark) <-- (That is all/ Please get back to me/Etc)

- Your name <-- (Your first name)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You need to do this each time you send an SMS/Text Message to your lecturer as he or she has many students and as a general rule does not keep your phone numbers in his or her mobile phone as a measure of security, personal privacy and professionalism.

It makes it difficult for the lecturer to identify who you are if you don't follow this guideline as a lecturer does not have only 30 or less students in one semester.

By following this guideline, you are showing maturity and politeness in your SMS/Text Message and it portrays you in a good manner.

Regards,

Mr. Khairul.

Drop Requirements, Class Set Changing and Dropping Etiquette - Sem. II 2011/2012

Good day everyone,

If you need to change to another set from the one registered (in my set/from my set) in WEEK 3 onwards, please inform me as I need to update the attendance list with the course co-coordinator.

Don't simply drop/change without telling me as it might result in a warning letter being sent to your faculty and you being barred from taking the final exam regardless of your status of being in a different set.

Regards,

Mr. Khairul

Schedule clashes and inability to register in any of the sets I'm teaching - Sem. II 2011/2012

Good day everyone,

If you're unable to register in any of the sets that I'm teaching, please try until the end of week 2 which is a Sunday. Do the registrations ONLY ONLINE. Manual registration with me will only be approved by me ONLY from WEEK 3 ONWARDS.

If there are sufficient people (15-30) who also face the same problem you and 'your group' face and another set needs to be opened to solve the problem, please meet the course co-ordinator at PPU to address the issue. This SHOULD ONLY be your LAST RESORT from WEEK 3 ONWARDS and is subject to the COURSE CO-OORDINATOR'S APPROVAL and HE or SHE has the right to NOT OPEN additional sets.

Regards,

Mr. Khairul.

Class Rules - Sem II 2011/2012 - All Subjetcs - All sets.

1. Put your phones in silent mode during class hours.

- No one wants to hear your ringtone aloud in class and it disrupts the class.

2. It is your responsibility to check this blog often for class announcements, materials and other important information regarding the class.

- You will be notified through other means of communication only if something unexpectedly occurs.

3. Respect your classmates and your instructor.

- You wouldn't like it if someone interrupted your presentation constantly or is disturbing you while you're trying to learn.

4. If you miss class 3 times in a row (same or different weeks consecutively) without any valid reason and supporting documents, a warning letter will be issued to your respective faculty.

- You can't simply not come to class unless it is part of the learning contract self-study hours. I may use some of the self-study hours to see you regarding the class.

5. You are only allowed to be 15 minutes late to class if you're commuting from one distant location to another or have a valid reason for doing so.

- You wouldn't want to wait constantly for people, so why do the same to the instructor and your classmates?
